MOSCOW, March 30. /TASS/. A petition proposing to place American nuclear weapons in Ukraine appeared on Thursday on the website of President Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Place US nuclear weapons on the territory of Ukraine or make Ukraine a state with its own nuclear weapons,” the author of the initiative suggests. It has so far been supported by about 100 people, in order to oblige Zelensky to consider and respond to the appeal, the petition must be signed by 25 thousand people in 90 days.
Since 2015, petitions with proposals have repeatedly appeared on the website of the President of Ukraine, which boiled down to the acquisition of nuclear weapons by the country. All of them did not get enough votes to be considered by the head of state.
In February 2022, Zelensky, speaking at the Munich Security Conference, admitted that Kyiv could reconsider its obligations under the Budapest Memorandum signed in 1994, which provided for the renunciation of nuclear weapons in exchange for security guarantees. Later, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the appearance of even tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine means a strategic threat to Russia.
